When she came to EASTBAY Works, Cassandra had no previous work experience, no direction in life and little academic success. Interested in a career in health care, she enrolled in the Contra Costa County’s Workforce Development (CCCWDB) Program for out-of-school youth.
Following intensive job market and career research, Cassandra decided to enroll in the Dental Assisting program at Mt. Diablo Adult School in Concord. CCCWDB provided a scholarship to help her with tuition and expenses. Cassandra did well in her classes, completed an externship at Dental Care of Antioch and was offered a full-time, permanent position with benefits.
She’s now accruing hours to sit for the State exam. Becoming a Registered Dental Assistant will enable her to have more responsibilities at work and also increase her pay. She encourages others who are struggling with their educational and career goals to visit one of EASTBAY Works’ partner job centers. For Cassandra, reaching out to EASTBAY Works made all the difference.
